Case study - The evolution of seating
In this project, I take a closer look at the journey of the chair — how it started as a symbol of power and status and evolved into the everyday object we all use. Chairs have always been more than just functional; they’ve told stories about society, culture, and what people valued at different points in time.
This study explores how technological advances, like the Industrial Revolution, and the shift toward mass production transformed the chair from something only the elite could afford to an item found in nearly every home, office, and public space. By examining the design, materials, and cultural context behind chairs throughout history, I’ve aimed to highlight the deeper connection between design and society.
"The Evolution of Seating" isn’t just about furniture; it’s about understanding how something as simple as a chair can shape the way we experience the world around us.
